The test lift of a 360 tonne offshore drilling rig took place in Erkelenz in the Rhineland. Two identical rigs of this type have been assembled on the outside of the production site since September of this year. The rigs are destined for an offshore project in Indonesia and must be fully assembled and tested before shipping. The focus here was on checking whether the drilling rigs, which only have one central attachment point, hang exactly horizontally when lifted by crane. This is important as the rigs will later be transported to the installation site in the Indonesian sea using a floating crane.
For the test, a 600-tonne crawler crane and various auxiliary cranes were used during assembly.
Numerous representatives of the client watched the test lift with great interest. The result was impressive: with a deviation of less than 0.1 degrees, the complex, 360-tonne system hung horizontally as required. The employees involved in the construction and assembly on site were correspondingly pleased.
